I often find myself returning to familiar verses over and over again to apply to daily situations. The Bible is our life instruction manual, after all. It's comforting to think of a verse when I'm tired, troubled, happy, or just seeking some wisdom and guidance. I've made an effort to memorize as many verses as I can, but sometimes I merely remember the scripture and not the chapter and verse. I want to change that this year. Now that Big Sis is older and has expressed an interest in memorizing scripture, too, I think it's important to work on this diligently together as a family. That's why I'm joining in with Shanna at Learning at His Feet to memorize 100 Bible verses in 2013. We'll learn 2 verses per week for 50 weeks. She is using the book 100 Bible Verses Everyone Should Know by Heart by Robert J. Morgan as the guide. (It's not required for participation, but it is available on Kindle instantly for only $2.99 if you're interested.)
For our part, I'll be printing the verses of the week and posting them prominently on our bulletin board in the kitchen. We'll say them together daily, read them in context, and work them into copywork as well. Big Sis is keeping a notebook. We're beginning this week with these two verses:
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. ~ John 1:1
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. ~ Genesis 1:1
