TOS Crew Review: See-N-Spell & See-N-Read

Photobucket

If your child struggles with spelling or vocabulary, just telling them to "look it up in the dictionary" can be a little overwhelming.  Even if spelling isn't usually a problem for them, it's still helpful to narrow down that giant tome to words that they actually need to use on a regular basis.  See-N-Spell Spelling and Vocabulary Quick Reference Guide can do just that.

This 40 page booklet helps writers to:
  • Easily find the correct spelling of 300+ commonly used American English words just by knowing the sound of the first letter or first few letters
  • Identify the correct spelling and usage of 'sound-alike' words (homophones)
  • Quickly determine the correct spelling of commonly misspelled words
  • Verify the correct usage of these words

The booklet is very quick and easy to use.  It is divided into three alphabetized sections:
  1. Most Commonly Used Vocabulary Words
  2. Commonly Misspelled Words
  3. My Special Interest Words

Big Sis (10) is a pretty good natural phonetic speller.  She loves words.  However, she sometimes lacks the confidence to write the words she knows simply because she isn't sure about the spelling.  See-N-Spell was designed to overcome just that problem.  Now instead of writing "veggies," she can easily look up "vegetables" and be sure that she is spelling it correctly.  She gains confidence, her writing vocabulary expands, and her spelling ability improves.  It's a handy tool!

As an added bonus with the purchase of the See-N-Spell booklet, you also receive the See-N-Read tool as pictured below:

From the website:
See-N-Read® is a practical assistive reading technology that is designed to help readers see, focus and remember what they read. These interventions for struggling readers reduce word- and line-skipping and pattern glare, enhancing reading fluency and improving reading comprehension.
I can imagine that this tool will come in handy for Lil Sis (4), whose special needs make focusing a difficult task.  She's not quite to the point of needing it yet, but I know that day will be coming soon.

The See-N-Spell booklet is available for $9.99.  The See-N-Read tool can be purchased for $2.99 and up (depending on size and quantity), but is free with your purchase of the See-N-Spell.
