"Cooper and Me and the Winter Adventure" book review and giveaway

In rhyming verse by Monique and Alexa Peters, Cooper and Me and the Winter Adventure tells the story of dogs Cooper and Bella, who decide to go sledding together on a very snowy day.  They wander a little too far from home and get lost in the snowstorm.  The book explores good safety practices for kids and what to do in case they become lost like the dogs in the story.

My girls loved the book and the bright illustrations.  Monique and Alexa Peters are a mother-daughter writing team.  Cooper is based on the family dog and daughter Alexa's drawings and stories of him.  When I told that to Big Sis (9), she was very excited to hear that an 11-year-old girl had become a published author.  Big Sis has been writing and drawing stories for several years now, so that's a dream of hers.

We read the book together the first two times, Big Sis has read it again to her little sisters, and both little sisters (4 and 2) have turned through the pages themselves just to look at the "doggie" pictures.  Needless to say, it has become a favorite and we would like to add more Cooper and Me books to our shelf.

I appreciate the fact that the book is teaching a great lesson in safety in a non-threatening way that will stick with the girls.  It conveys the safety message in a way that just can't be done with a lecture from me.  It also includes questions at the end of the book for discussion and there are free printables on the website.
