Book review: "The Secret of the Missing Locket" by Deborah M. Lott

I've mentioned many times how much Big Sis loves to read.  Even with our frequent trips to the library and our collection of books at home, it's difficult to keep enough reading material around for her!  She recently read the entire Nancy Drew Notebook/Nancy Drew and the Clue Crew series and developed a love for those type of mysteries.  She also enjoyed the Boxcar Children and is working her way through that series.  That's why I was glad for the opportunity to review The Secret of the Missing Locket by Deborah M. Lott, a mystery written with the tween audience in mind.

From the description:
Twelve-year-old April Matthews has just moved into her great-aunt's creepy southern mansion. Within days, she uncovers a century-old family mystery, tales of ghosts, and the long-lost diary of her great-great grandmother. Are the mysterious dreams she is having related to the secret? Will she be able to solve the mystery before time runs out? This mystery is a fun read for 8 to 12 year olds.
The story starts quickly and builds the excitement to draw the reader in.  The characters are likable and believable, according to Big Sis.  It's a fast read, so it would make some great afternoon entertainment for the dreary winter days.

The book is available for the Kindle at only 99 cents!  You can't beat that price.  I don't have an e-reader so I read it in pdf format on the computer and then let Big Sis do the same.  It would be a lot easier on the Kindle, I'm sure.  You can buy the book from Amazon or Smashwords.

Big Sis enjoyed the book and said she hopes that there will be more books that feature April Matthews in the future.  April's sidekick in the book is a boy, so it's not for girls only.  I think boys would enjoy the suspense and fast-paced mystery as well.

The author, Deborah Lott, also happens to be a homeschool mom.  She is the author of Super Star Speech:  Speech Therapy Made Simple.

You can read the first chapter of The Secret of the Missing Locket here.

I recommend this book as a fun read for the young mystery-lover in your family.
