Two years ago this summer, Big Sis completed her first lapbook on
Mr. Popper's Penguins and she was officially hooked on lapbooking! Since then, we've done lapbooks on holidays, geography, history, math, literature, science, and animals. We can cover any subject in an engaging way through this method and the ideas really stay with her. Plus, they're a creative way to display what she's learned and have a keepsake of it.

You might guess that after these past few years, we've accumulated a stack of lapbooks. Yes, storage can become a problem. I've read suggestions for using duct tape or electrical tape along the edges, then using a three-hole punch to create a kind of binding so they can be placed in a three-ring notebook. I've never liked the look of that ugly tape or the way it can roll up or become sticky after time. Thankfully,
Pear Educational Products has come up with a great alternative with their
project base adhesive strips. They are mylar coated for durability and so much better looking than duct tape! They work in the same way that you would use the duct tape; however, they are peel and stick with the holes already punched. Easier, cleaner, and neater all the way around! These adhesive strips are available in a pack of 10 for only $3.75.

| Extended fold-up base |
Pear Educational Products hasn't forgotten about the other necessary lapbooking elements, either -- the actual project base! Big Sis and I have used all manner of file folders: letter sized, legal sized, plain manila, and colored or patterned folders. We seem to always run into the same problems, though. The crease of the folds and not enough room, thereby requiring us to tape or staple on an extra "arm" to the folder. Pear Educational Products offers some solutions to get around those issues. The
fold-up project base ($7.95 for 5) is for smaller/standard size lapbooks and eliminates the fold crease getting in the way as with regular file folders. The
extended fold-up base ($9.95 for 5) allows for that extra "arm" so you have more room for all the information of a larger lapbook. It's all very neat and crisp looking, something we appreciate!

The final product we reviewed is the
spiral-bound line. These are perfect for larger lapbooking projects, scrapbooks, nature journals, or art books. They come in several sizes and each has a pocket in the back to store items, like lapbooking elements that haven't been glued down yet, so you don't lose them before you get to finish the lapbook.
(Not that we've ever done anything like that. *
ahem*) I like it that the books are very portable and lie flat when you open them thanks to the spiral binding. It makes it very simple to work page by page.
Pear Educational Products is a family business run by homeschoolers. As I've mentioned before, I always love to support a fellow homeschooler whenever possible and it's easy to recommend these products from Pear. When you go to the effort of making a lapbook, you want a quality way to display it and keep it for the future. Pear Educational Products definitely helps with that! I would even like to see them add more products in the future, such as colored or patterned project bases, or even more sizes. I really recommend this specialized solution for your lapbooking needs.

Thanks so much for the review! We've considered other products and sizes. I have a couple things that I'm tossing around, but I love to get suggestions directly from lapbookers too!

I was hooked with our first lapbook too. Unfortunately, my students didn't feel the same way...but too bad we still did quite a few.

I remember when I was young I used to cut topics on the newspaper and paste those in a drawing book. Now that I have kids on my own, I still give importance to Lapbooking which are a wonderful hands-on tool in teaching my kids at home.
